Gong Fu Golf
What is gong fu you ask?
And how does it relate to golf?
It’s an unusual word.
It comes from the Chinese.
Gong fu is any skill that is learned through hard work and practice.
It’s something that takes practice to master.
The question is can you be a master of golf?
The even deeper question is can you be a master of yourself?
That is the journey.
That is the quest.
It’s not to master golf.
It’s to be a master of Self.
It’s to play with integrity, character and self-discipline.
It’s to play fearlessly, detached from outcomes
It’s to play in the flow state developing oneness of the ball, club, body, mind and soul with awareness of the Spirit within.
It’s masterful golf.
It’s Self-mastery.
Golf is the ultimate sport to practice Self-mastery.
There is nowhere to hide.
There is nowhere to run.
It’s just you trying to get the ball into the hole in as few strokes as possible.
It’s humbling.
It can bring a grown man to his knees.
It strips our ego away.
The best make it look easy, but we know it’s not.
Most golfers can’t break 100.
I see it every day on the range.
But there is something about this game that is intriguing.
It keeps us coming back for more.
We see what is possible when we hit that one perfect shot.
But it runs deeper than that.
At its core, golf is a game that helps us know ourselves better.
That is gong fu.
When we attain Self-knowing through gong fu, that is true power.
That is what golf is all about.
