Golf is My Greatest Teacher

Golf is my greatest teacher.

The only caveat is if I let it teach me.

I think I know, but I don’t.

When I am resistant to what I am supposed to learn, there is only frustration.

Why is it so damn hard to get out of my own way?

I can’t learn the truth when my finite mind thinks I know the way.

My finite mind is limited.

My finite mind is powerless.

It tricks me into thinking that I know.

I know for a little while and then I am back to frustration.

The better way is to simply ask the question and be open to what the Universe is trying to teach me.

“Universe, what do you want me to learn today from my golf practice?”

“Universe, what do you want me to learn from today’s round of golf?”

“Universe, how can I be a better person from playing golf?”

Then, most importantly, STOP thinking.

Listen to that still small voice.

Let go and let the Divine take over.

My only job is to be receptive to Divine inspiration.

That’s it.

No more.

I know it sounds so simple, but my thinking mind is my enemy.

I don’t swing my swing.

I lose who I am.

Golf is my greatest teacher when I still my mind.

Golf is my greatest teacher when I realize I am no-thing.

Golf is my greatest teacher when I am purposeless and egoless.

Golf is my greatest teacher when I have a beginner’s mind.

Be like a child.

Open.

Innocent.

Live in childlike wonder playing for the love of the game.

No goals.

Just play and practice to see what shows up.

There is no right.

There is no wrong.

There is no good shot.

There is no bad shot.

There are just shots.

Everything is unfolding exactly how it is supposed to.

Golf, thanks for teaching me humility.

Thanks for teaching me how to get out of my own way.

Thanks for teaching me how to deal with frustration.

Thanks for teaching me how not to give up on myself.

Thanks for teaching me to take chances again.

But, most of all, thanks for teaching me how to have a deeper understanding of myself.

You are a gift to me even when I don’t see it that way.

Be in the Shot,

T. Anthony
